What is Indexing?
Indexing is how Draftbox makes your files searchable by AI. When you upload a document, we process its content so Aura AI can understand, reference, and reason about it.
On Free, only metadata (file name, type, size) is indexed — AI cannot read inside your files. On Pro and above, full attachment indexing lets Aura AI read and reference the actual content of your uploaded files, making answers much richer and more accurate.
Draftbox can extract text from PDF files so Aura AI can search and reference their content. This includes research papers, reports, and any text-based PDF. Available on Pro and above.
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) lets Draftbox read text inside images — scanned documents, screenshots, photos of whiteboards, etc. The extracted text becomes searchable and available to Aura AI. Available on Scientist plans and above.
Upload audio files and Draftbox will transcribe them into searchable text. Perfect for meeting recordings, interviews, or voice notes. The transcriptions are indexed and available to Aura AI. Available on Scientist plans and above.
Indexing storage vs. file storage
Your files take up Storage quota. The indexed (processed) versions take up Indexing quota. Both are separate limits shown in your Billing settings.
